Christoph Drebes CEO of Mystery Minds

Christoph Drebes is an entrepreneur, speaker, and expert in the German-speaking world on HR tech, employee networking, and matching technologies in companies. As co-founder and CEO of Mystery Minds, he has spent over a decade exploring how organizations can improve collaboration, knowledge transfer, and development through targeted connections between people.

His focus is on a central theme of the modern workplace: How can employees in large organizations be connected in a structured, scalable, and meaningful way?

Career and Entrepreneurial Background

Christoph Drebes studied international business administration at the WFI – Ingolstadt School of Management and subsequently began his career through a graduate program at Telefónica (o2).

Early on, he recognized a structural problem that still affects many companies today: despite increasing digitalization, interaction among employees often remains haphazard, inefficient, or siloed.

Together with his co-founder Stefan Melbinger, he then developed the idea for a solution that addresses precisely this problem: a platform that connects employees with one another in a targeted and intelligent way (“matches” them). The two call their solution “a kind of ‘professional matchmaker’ for companies,” thereby opening up a market that didn’t exist before: employee matching.

In 2014, the two founded Mystery Lunch, later renamed Mystery Minds, with the vision of sustainably transforming the world of work through better connections between people.

The Growth of Mystery Minds and Market Development

Under the leadership of Christoph Drebes, Mystery Minds evolved from an initial idea into an employee networking and matching platform used internationally.

Today, more than 300 companies in over 50 countries use the software to connect employees across departmental, geographical, and hierarchical boundaries. With more than ten years of experience, Mystery Minds is a market leader in employee matching.

The software solution’s approach deliberately goes beyond traditional HR tools: It focuses on actively fostering connections within an organization to create a large network where everyone knows who to address with specific questions.

Typical use cases include:

  • Mentoring programs
  • Onboarding support
  • Peer learning & knowledge sharing
  • Leadership programs
  • Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
  • Post-merger integration
  • Informal networking formats such as
  • “Mystery Coffee” or “Mystery Lunch”

These formats all share a common core:
Intelligent matching between employees.

Employee development and mentoring are particularly close to Christoph’s heart. To this end, he has launched his own YouTube series called “Mentoring Decoded,” in which he regularly shares interesting insights and lessons learned.

Expertise: Matching Technology and Employee Networking

A central focus of Christoph Drebes’ work is the further development of matching technologies in the field of human resources.

This does not only involve simple criteria such as role or location, but also more complex dimensions such as:

  • Interests and personal goals
  • Experience and skills
  • Learning needs and development goals
  • Cultural and organizational factors

His perspective differs significantly from many traditional or purely AI-driven approaches: Not every connection is automatically valuable - what matters is the quality and relevance of the match in the specific context.

Thought Leadership: The Future of Work and HR Transformation

Christoph Drebes is a thought leader on the role of networking and informal learning in modern organizations. In his contributions, presentations, and professional articles, he focuses in particular on the following questions:

  • Why traditional training formats are often insufficient
  • What role informal learning plays in sustainable development
  • How companies can structurally break down silos
  • Why internal networks are a decisive competitive factor
  • How matching technology can help address the skills shortage

A recurring core of his argument:
Knowledge already exists within companies, it’s just not being shared effectively.

Through targeted networking, companies can unlock this potential without relying exclusively on external resources.

Bridging Technology and Corporate Culture

A key feature of Christoph Drebes’s work is the integration of technological innovation and cultural transformation.

While many HR tech solutions focus primarily on processes and efficiency, his work centers on a different question:

How can technology enhance human interaction rather than replace it?

This approach is particularly evident in the design of Mystery Minds:

Focus on ease of use and low barriers to entry
Emphasis on genuine conversations rather than digital interaction alone
Combination of structure (matching) and openness (exchange)

The goal is not just efficiency, but a sustainably stronger, connected corporate culture.

Mission: Making the Workplace More Human

Christoph Drebes’s core mission can be clearly summarized as follows:

Making the workplace more human through genuine connections between people.

His work demonstrates that sustainable business success depends not only on strategy or technology, but also, to a significant extent, on how well people within an organization are connected to one another.
